Women's center to kick off new programs

LEWISTON — As the new year begins, The Center for Wisdom’s Women is starting some new programs. A women’s Full Moon Singing Circle will begin meeting monthly starting Sunday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. For this first event, members of Women with Wings from Bangor will join participants. No experience needed; you don’t even have to read music. Come sing just to nurture your spirit. Hot tea will be provided. Bring a munchie to share if you can.

An introductory singing circle with the Brunswick Women's Chorus was held on the Dec. 21 solstice. The next of the monthly events will take place Sunday, Jan. 27. Future dates will be Monday, Feb. 25; Wednesday, March 27; Thursday, April 25; Saturday, May 25; Sunday, June 23. Attendees are invited to bring a munchie to share if they would like. Hot tea is provided.

A new class about “Saying NO” will meet on Jan. 10 and 14. Participants will learn how to identify their needs and boundaries and how to say no to people who cross the line. Another new class on Jan. 17 will talk about food stamp budgeting and discuss ways to make food stamps stretch through an entire month. On Jan. 24 a class on “real friends” will talk about what a true friend is and is not. Participants will share stories of friendships that matter and ways to be a good friend.

Several support groups meet regularly at the center. The fibromyalgia support group is scheduled for Thursdays, Jan. 10 and 24, at 1 p.m. A weekly Al-Anon group meets on Wednesdays at 12:15. Other ongoing groups include the Writer’s Workshop on Monday mornings and “Beating the Blues” and “Wisdom Circle” on alternate Tuesday afternoons.

The Art Van will visit Jan. 30. Craft classes will meet on Jan. 8 and 22. These and other regular events at the center are posted on the website, www.wisdomswomen.org. The center will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King day on Jan. 21.

All women are welcome and no appointments are needed. All programs are offered free of charge. Oatmeal breakfasts are offered daily, and personal hygiene items monthly, and the center has a shower available. Donations of full size shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, lotion and toothpaste are needed and welcomed.
