Isabella members to attend special celebration on Feb. 2

JAY — On Jan. 9, the Daughters of Isabella Circle 677 from St. Rose of Lima in Jay held their first monthly business meeting of the new year.

The meeting began with Chancellor Laurieanne Castonguay leading the group in the recitation of the Rosary. Chancellor then read the opening prayer. Regent Denise Rodzen asked Donna Storer to sit in for Linda Ouellette, Rita Crowley sat in for Amy Ouellette Newman and Louise Parker sat in for Karen Daniels.

Past Regent Laurie Gagnepain performed the Ceremony of Draping of the Charter for deceased Sisters Clemence Georgette Moreau and Virginia D. LaBrecque LaFleur.

Recording secretary Jackie Castonguay read the roll call of officers. and the minutes of the previous business meeting in November. Treasurer Louise Chandler read the bills received in November.

Jackie Castonguay read communications received from Christmas cards from Mary Molten, Anne Sawyer, Food Cupboard and Irene Hebert; thank-you cards received from Phil and Amy Newman and Spruce Mountain High School; and a letter received from the Souper Bowl of Caring. Seminarian Brad Morin sent a card with a picture of the Pope.

Shirley Couture was in charge of the Souper Bowl of Caring; Louise Buzzle accepted to be in charge of that program.

A letter was received from International saying that there is an 85th celebration from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Holy Family Church Parish Hall on Brunswick Street, Old Town. The cost is $10 with a choice of meal. Anyone wishing to go may send a check to Janet LePage, Regent, St. Cecelia Circle 428, P.O. Box 142, Hudson, ME 04449. Return reservation and checks must be received by Jan. 25. The snow date will be Feb. 16. For more information call Janet at 852-2750.

Next worthy regent Rodzen read a letter she received from International regent Christian Chagnon telling the history of the candy cane. There were no new memberships. Sign up sheets were put out for anyone who wanted to make something for the K of C free supper or make a snack for after the business meeting.

Next discussed was the music for the Mardi Gras which will held on Feb. 12. Louise Parker said that she would be glad to play. Annette Melson said that she needs items to put in the newsletter that is sent out.

It was said to send a thank-you card to Victora Jackson for the help received on the basket. Second Auditor Maryette Castonguay spoke about the bean supper and that the date will be March 2 at the parish hall.
