Art in the schools

L/A Arts has announced an Afterschool Theater Class for fourth through sixth graders beginning Jan. 31 at McMahon Elementary School in Lewiston with performing artist and film-maker Leland Faulkner. The class, on Mondays and Thursdays through March 11, will teach and train students in basic theatre skills and concepts in a hands on, engaging environment. It will provide a positive outlet for young performers and teach them the skills of imagination, character creation and ensemble building in the creation of original theater. A typical workshop will include physical warm ups, mime and acting techniques, theatre games, and structured improvisations based on literature and/or dramatic plays. The class will culminate in a sharing of student artwork in March for invited parents, friends and school community members.
