The Portland Museum of Art is in its 19th year of celebrating Youth Art Month during the month of March. Teachers who belong to the Maine Art Education Association may select one work of student art to represent their school. The art opening was held on March 2 and the artwork will hang for the month on the fourth floor of the museum.

Two students from Lewiston Middle School have their work on display. Eighth grader, Nick Powers, has a mixed media collage on display and Katie Morin, grade seven, has her painting on display.

In Augusta, the Maine Education Association is in its 11th year of working with the Maine Art Education Association to celebrate Youth Art Month. Teachers from around the state are able to select one work of student art to submit. With Horace Mann as underwriters for this show, the artwork is framed and will hang in the Augusta office until next November. The students will then keep the frames when their work is returned. Lewiston Middle School’s Taylor Chamberlain, grade seven, has her drawing on display and Megan Goding, grade eight, is exhibiting her mask. Teachers Kate Cargile and Kay Allison celebrated with their students at an art opening on March 3 in Augusta.

Both exhibits are open to the public and show an amazing talent of young artists in grades K-12.
