100 Years Ago, 1912
 The twelfth annual meeting of the Stanton Club of Bates College (held in Portland) was made particularly joyful for all present by the receipt of a letter from President Chase, who was announcing the gift of $50,000 for the college for the erection of a new chapel.

50 Years Ago, 1962
A candidate for the aldermanic post in Lewiston’s Ward One said that certain entertainment establishments in the city “are a danger to our community.” In a statement, he said, “Some violate decency. They promote disturbing spectacles and breed delinquency. They are a public disgrace. Revenue to the city from their license fees does not justify voting fot them.” None of the establishments was named.

25 Years Ago, 1987
The City of Auburn has agreed to obey an order from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to find someplace other than the Androscoggin River to dump its snow.
Meeting before their regular evening session, city councilors yesterday accepted a recommendation fro City Manager Charles A. Morrison, who said the city is making arrangements with several landowners to use their property as dump sites.
