Library to host "End All Wars" book discussion

Registration required for free public event

The Lewiston Public Library is partnering with the Machiah Center and the Maine Humanities Council to host a discussion on the book "To End All Wars: A Story of Loyalty and Rebellion, 1912-1918."

Registration is required for this free public event scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 7 p.m., in the library’s first-floor Couture Room.

"To End All Wars," by Adam Hochschild, looks at World War I through British eyes, covering both the soldiers at war in France and British pacifists, war resisters and suffragettes working to end the conflict back home in England.

The book was published last May and made many Best of 2011 book lists. Kirkus Reviews recently described "To End All Wars" as "an ambitious narrative that presents a teeming worldview through intimate, human portraits."

The library program will be facilitated by Candace Kanes, Maine Memory Network curator and historian at the Maine Historical Society. She is an experienced discussion leader who has worked on numerous Maine Humanities Council programs over the years.

Registrations are being taken on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, call 513-3134 or email LPL@LewistonMaine.gov. Copies of the book may be borrowed from the library.
