Gridley Barrows photo collection

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library is partnering with the Sun Journal to solve the "Mystery of the Unknown Buildings" in its Gridley Barrows Collection.

If you think you recognize this photo, please let library staff know at lplonline.org/mysteryPhoto or send a note to adult services, Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St., Lewiston, ME 04240.

When Lewiston architect and local historian Gridley Barrows died in 1999, the library received his collection of nearly 6,000 photographs depicting local buildings and architectural features.

Most have been identified over the years, but many remain a mystery. With the goal of preserving and eventually making the photographic collection available to the public online, we need your help to identify as many images as possible.

This feature will appear weekly in the Sun Journal. If you are the first to correctly identify a photo, you will be recognized in the print and online editions of the Sun Journal.

Identified!

Doug Hodgkin says: "It is a reproduction from the G. Herbert Whitney Collection at the
Androscoggin Historical Society. It is identified as the camels in the Ringling Brothers circus parade, June 10, 1911 at the corner of Maine and Sabattus Streets." Thanks Doug!
