Fifth-graders from the Hartford-Sumner Elementary School traveled to Winthrop Monday to see the progress of the sculpture being readied for their school. Ron Cross of Winthrop is sculpting, not with hammer, chisel and stone, but with welder and steel, a one-ton sundial which will grace the courtyard of the new addition to the school sometime next fall. Commissioning of the sculpture by the Maine Arts Commission came through a process of meetings, proposal solicitation, review and final selection.
