Marsalis at Merrill

Wynton Marsalis

The swinging Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra — featuring 15 of jazz’s leading soloists under the leadership of internationally renowned Wynton Marsalis — will perform Friday, Jan. 25, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland. Marsalis is not only an acclaimed musician, composer and bandleader, he is also an educator and a leading advocate of American culture. He is the world’s first jazz artist to perform and compose across the full jazz spectrum, from its New Orleans roots to bebop to modern jazz. The orchestra draws from an extensive repertoire that includes original compositions by Marsalis, Ted Nash and other members of the orchestra, as well as the masterworks of Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane and other jazz giants. Tickets to the 8 p.m. concert, presented by Portland Ovations, are $70, $60 and $45. Visit tickets.porttix.com or portlandovations. org.
