NORWAY — Oxford Hills Music and Performing Arts Association has announced its 2013 season.
OHMPAA will offer performances of "The Good Doctor" at 7:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, March 14-16 and 21-23 and at 2 p.m. on two Sundays, March 17 and 23 at the Norway Grange theater.
"The Good Doctor" was written by Anton Chekhov and retold and staged by play write Neil Simon. The stories in it include a scene in which a minor government clerk sneezes on the back of his boss's head and consequently drives himself crazy obsessing about it. In another scene, a local priest goes to the village doctor with an abscessed tooth and finding the doctor out of town, ends up being treated by the doctor's inept assistant. In still another, a street dweller offers to "drown" himself for show, fully acknowledging the fact that he can't swim.
Performers include Sarah Porter, Holly Hill, Andy Turner, Kyle Martin under the direction of Kenn Sawyer. Show producers are Terry Cole and Jenn St. Pierre. Other production staff members include Mike Porter, Judy Foster, Norm Hutchins, Carol Huotari and Connie Allen.
Veteran director Tom Littlefield will direct "The Fourth Wall" by A. R. Gurney from June 20-30. This show is considered Gurney's "love letter to the theater," using the stage to explore such contemporary topics as cola wars, politics and even the people who attend the theater.
"Wait Until Dark" by Frederick Knott will run from Nov. 14-24, directed by Jane Riseman. This show will mark Riseman's directing debut for OHMPAA. The story line is a masterfully constructed thriller in which two ex-convicts attempt to locate a mysterious item, ending up in the Greenwich Village apartment of Sam Hendrix and his blind wife Susy.
Although a show has yet to be selected, OHMPAA's dinner theater is scheduled for Sept. 20 and 21.
The Norway Grange theater is located at 15 Whitman St., off Main St. Tickets for all shows may be purchased at Book-N-Things, Main St. or call 207-739-6200. For more information, visit OHMPAA.com.
