Town to pay for culvert theft, gate damage

LIVERMORE  — The theft of a section of metal culvert and damage to a gate at the Transfer Station will be borne by the town. The insurance deductible for both is higher than both items are worth.

A 10-foot section of 12-inch metal culvert pipe was stolen from the Highway Garage grounds on Church Street in early October, Town Administrator Kurt Schaub said. The culvert is valued at about $135.

The insurance deductible is $1,000.

Someone also attempted to break down the gate at the Transfer Station off Route 4 and bent the gate, Schaub said. The damage is believed to have been done by a vehicle.

It now sags when opened but it closes and locks, he said. The cost to replace the gate is about $750. Again the insurance deductible is $1,000.

The gate was replaced two years ago.

“It is just one of those things that is very frustrating,” Schaub said.

The sagging gate will probably only be a problem during snow removal.

Both events probably occurred the night of Oct. 3, he said.

Reports of the incidents were filed with law enforcement.

headline in print edition was funnier

Livermore Falls voters were lighting torches and digging out pitchforks, ready to march across the bridge to the Livermore Town Office, but a sharp eyed copy editor for the e-edition spotted the error and the populace returned to their morning Fruit Loops.

Dear headline writer, Livermore and Livermore Falls parted company a looooooong time ago. I'm sure that Kurt would be happy to have his counterpart in LVFLS write a check, but, I guess it won't happen.
