A Franklin County grand jury indicted Alexander Ryerson, 19, on charges of felony burglary and tampering with a witness and misdemeanor charges of theft and criminal mischief.

Jay police arrested Ryerson on Dec. 20 after a burglary was reported on Church Street.

Residents had gone out for a few hours and returned to find their door kicked in and a window broken, police Chief Larry White Sr. said previously.

Officer Nicholas Gulliver went to the house and learned that $300 in cash and four cans of Budweiser had been stolen, White said.

One of the residents told Gulliver that two witnesses saw a male break into the house, White said. The witnesses told Gulliver they told Ryerson to stop, and Ryerson told them if they told police he would be back, White said.

In a separate matter, Livermore Falls police charged Ryerson by summons on Jan. 3 with theft by unauthorized taking related to a March 30, 2011, case, Livermore Falls police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Friday.

A senior citizen reported a “young gentleman” came to her apartment door at the Bank Building and asked for a glass of water, Steward said previously. About 15 to 20 minutes later, the woman realized her pocketbook was missing and reported it to police, he said.
