Valentine's dinner, dance to help soldiers, veterans keep in touch

JAY — The VFW is holding a Valentine's dinner and dance on Saturday to benefit Operation Uplink, a program that helps active duty military personnel and hospitalized veterans stay in touch with family and friends by providing free phone cards.

The prime rib dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at VFW Post 3335 Hall on Jewell Street.

The dance will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight with music provided by “DJ Mikie T.”

Tickets are $20 and are by advance sale and may be purchased at the Post. Call 897-5112 for more information.

Operation Uplink has always been supported and sustained solely by donations, the majority of which comes from VFW and Ladies Auxiliary members.

Tickets sold out quickly last year and the same is expected to happen again.

If someone is unable to attend this event but would like to make a donation, send a check made out to the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 3335 to Diane Getz, 162 Lafayette Road, Lot 7, Livermore Falls, ME, 04254. Be sure to make a note that the donation is for Operation Uplink.

Thousands of deployed troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, as well has hospitalized veterans were able to benefit from the program in 2011.

Enough money was raised by VFWs to provide two free call days each month in 2011.
