FARMINGTON — A Franklin County justice sentenced a local man Wednesday to serve 90 days of an 18-month jail sentence for possessing and importing heroin, and stealing tools from a New Sharon residence.
Justice Michaela Murphy also ordered Gregory Schiche, 31, to serve two years probation upon his release from jail.
Schiche pleaded guilty in Franklin County Superior Court to felony charges of unlawful possession of heroin and illegal importation of heroin in a 2011 case. He also pleaded guilty to felony burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer from a 2009 case.
If the case went to trial, Assistant Attorney General David Fisher said witnesses would have testified a tracking device was put on a car driven by a Farmington woman showing it went to Connecticut and was returning on Feb. 11, 2011. Police got a search warrant and stopped it on Main Street in East Wilton and found 45 bags of heroin inside, he said.
Schiche was in the car and admitted that he had a drug habit and the three people in the car had pooled their money to get $300 worth of heroin, Fisher said.
Justice Michaela Murphy sentenced Schiche to 18 months with all but 90 days suspended on each of the three felony charges. The sentences are concurrent so Schiche will serve 90 days in all. He was also fined $400.
