Oil-to-pellets conversion

Employee Peter Kamm of Mountain Mechanical Co. in Strong and owner Buddy Kempton check out the Forster Memorial Building’s new pellet boiler Thursday in Strong. The building houses town offices, a library, several meeting rooms, and a kitchen and dining room. The town received a Wood To Energy Grant from the state Department of Conservation's Maine Forest Service to buy the pellet boiler. Voters approved converting from oil to wood heat after a 2011 energy audit estimated a $5,000 annual savings based on oil at $2.50 per gallon. “We’ve figured even more significant cost savings because oil prices have increased since then,” Selectman and Energy Team member Michael Carleton said.
