JAY— Police say a man living in Jay for more than a month faces a charge of failing to register as a sex offender.
Brian Schwenneker, 35, of Jay and Livermore Falls was arrested Tuesday on a felony charge of violation of the sex offender registration act, police Chief Larry White said.
Officer Russell Adams learned Schwenneker, whose address was listed as Augusta at Franklin County Detention Center, had moved to Jay. He failed to register in Jay, which is a condition he needs to complete when he moves, White said in a release.
Schwenneker has 48 hours to register once he moves, White said.
Schwenneker was taken to Franklin County Detention Center where bail was set at $1,000 cash or $10,000 surety. He he remained at the jail late Wednesday afternoon. As part of his bail he is to have no contact with an adult female.
An Oct. 26 court appearance is scheduled.
