WILTON — The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Franklin County residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
A walk in Wilton starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Kineowatha Park, on High Street.
Participants will walk 2 miles while they learn about Alzheimer's disease and how to get involved with this cause, from advocacy opportunities, the latest in Alzheimer’s research and clinical trial enrollment to support programs and services. Walkers will also join in a meaningful ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s estimated 5.4 million afflicted with the disease.
“There has never been a greater need for the citizens of Franklin County to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by participating in Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” said Laurie Trenholm, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter. “Funds raised will provide care and support services to the 37,000 residents of Maine living with Alzheimer’s, while also contributing to advancing critically-needed research.”
This is the last of four weeks of walks held across the state. Donations are being collected through the end of the year. For more information, please visit www.alz.org/walk.
