FARMINGTON — Everything looks bright, light and new in the Mt. Blue Shopping Center where crews are working on the final touches for the grand opening of BigLots! on Nov. 16.

Nick Newell and Daniel Poland of N&T Professional Services of Farmington work outside the new BigLots! store in Farmington. The grand opening is set for Nov. 16.

In between interviews and hiring employees Friday, Store Manager Rick Routhier of Greene said he'll hold an employee orientation Monday and Tuesday before the new workers will help to start stocking shelves.

About 150 applications were received, he said. He's hiring about 55 part-time workers to get the store started.

This is the sixth store Routhier has helped open since starting to work for the company in 2001.

With the grand opening just a week before Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, Routhier said he is not sure about extended hours for holiday shopping.

Normally the store will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays, he said.
