Partial results show RSU 78 voters approving July 1 start date for directors

RANGELEY — With two towns reporting late Tuesday, a question to establish a common date for beginning the terms of new RSU 78 directors was passing by a vote of 78-21.

Residents in Magalloway Plantation in Oxford County voted 6-8 to reject the July 1 start.

Sandy River voters voted 72-13 to approve it.

Results from Rangeley, Dallas Plantation and Rangeley Plantation had not come in as of late Tuesday.

The school board put the question to voters because different municipalities in the district hold annual town meetings at different times. It results in the newly elected members, if not currently serving on the board, coming in the middle of budget preparation each year.

The approval of the question allows the current board to stay in place and new members, regardless of when they are elected, would begin their terms on the board on July 1, which is the start of a new fiscal year.
