Ron Jacques of Jay makes some of the first ski turns of the season at Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley on Friday. Jacques, co-owner of the Ski Depot in Jay, was taking advantage of the new snow on Lower Winter's Way during the resort's opening day, the earliest opening since 2007, and a week ahead of the planned opening for 2012.
