FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Dispatch Center moved another step forward Monday after five members of Farmington's Planning Board unanimously approved applications for the project.
Franklin County Commissioners voted earlier Monday to move forward with Taylor Made Homes Inc. of Wilton to build the communications center on county property.
A partial board, including Chairman Clayton King Jr., members Lloyd Smith, Timothy Hardy, Craig Jordan and alternate member Gloria McGraw, went through a short checklist of items for the applications for site review, soil erosion/storm water management and a wireless telecommunications facility. They unanimously approved each application.
Fred Marshall, project manager for Plymouth Engineering, briefly described plans for the 2,200-square-foot building.
"The building will be totally independent of the jail and sheriff's office," he said. "It's a stand-alone facility."
No abutters to the county property have called or voiced objections, Code Enforcement Officer Steve Kaiser said.
The plan also meets the town's requirements for parking with a total of 26 spaces available between the jail, dispatch and Sheriff's Department, Kaiser said.
The plan is to erect a new communications tower. It is low enough to not require lighting, Marshall said.
