14 applications for police chief received

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — The town received 14 applications for the position of police chief, Town Manager Dave Cota said Thursday.

Three candidates have been interviewed to date, he said.

The search committee is comprised of five selectmen, police Chief Scott Nichols Sr.,  fire Chief Courtney Knapp and Cota.

Nichols was elected sheriff of Franklin County in November and starts his new duties Jan. 1, 2013.

Selectmen will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17. They will go into executive session at the end of the meeting to discuss the candidates, Cota said. He believes a decision will be made on the new chief after the executive session, he said.
