Search for snowmobilers in Rangeley Lake still on hold

RANGELEY — Efforts to recover the bodies of three snowmobilers believed to be in Rangeley Lake remained on hold Tuesday morning, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Ice conditions on the lake continue to make it difficult for rescue personnel, and the Maine Warden Service continues to monitor the conditions.

The men, Glenn Henderson of Sabattus, Kenneth Henderson of China and John Spencer of Litchfield, are believed to have snowmobiled into open water last Sunday evening.

"If the lake opens up a large enough open water area near where we believe the snowmobiles are located, the Maine Warden Service will once again consider the possibility of using sonar and watercraft," the department said in a news release.

"If the ice remains frozen, plans will be modified to include the possibility of utilizing the Maine Warden Service Dive Team and other pieces of equipment."
