I find comments by Peter Robinson, Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert and others on the losing side of the Lewiston casino question to be offensive and insulting to Maine voters.
Maine voters did not vote against the casino because of propaganda or comments by Gov. Paul LePage. In their wisdom, Maine voters turned it down because having another casino some 20 minutes away from Oxford's casino was a bad idea.

The Lewiston casino never had a chance. It was just a dumb idea from its inception.

I was disappointed in Mayor Gilbert's reaction to losing the casino in Lewiston. I had met him earlier this year at an event and we actually had quite a lengthy discussion about the city and its possibilities. He was optimistic Lewiston would be a thriving town again, with no mention of building a casino. All in all, a good talk and a good guy in my impression. I guess that's why I was so surprised and let down by Gilbert's reaction to the loss. A leader is supposed to put his best face on at all times. Leaders are also responsible for having contigency plans in place in the event their original plan swirls in the bowl. Sad to say, Mayor Gilbert offered neither election night. He offered no optimistic "plan B" and the face he chose to wear was that of a spoiled child being told "no". Not a flattering image to convey upon his exit from office.
