I've been reading and listening to the news about the march on Wall Street and I am very impressed by this movement. Dissent, to me, is very patriotic.
We cannot all be camping out in protest but we could take turns, by groups, to march from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the state capital. The ones who can could travel to Washington, D.C., and do the same there.
Not much will change in this country until millions and millions of people are willing to peacefully protest, and for as long as it takes to encourage changes for the common good.
People keep blaming President Barack Obama for the mess this country is in. Did people really listen to his plans to revitalize the country? Members of Congress did all they could to destroy all his efforts.
If we are going to blame anyone, blame Congress, or its owners — corporate America. Most of the laws they lobby for favor the top 1 percent of the population.
This nation has all the resources needed to prosper, but they are all held very securely in the wrong hands.
The U.S. is controlled by fear, always the fear of not having enough.
"In God we trust" doesn't really apply unless the Golden Rule is practiced.
We, the people, need to blame ourselves for the lack of dissent.
Now, more than ever, people must be willing to work for the common good. I am grateful for those who already are.

Non violent protest does encourage positive change . Peace Prize winners King , Carter , R. Menchu and our President Obama know this , also ( Ghandi never received one ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Peace_Prize )

How about we, the people, need to blame ourselves for continuing to elect the idiots and morons we keep electing, Lou?

More than half of the members of the U.S. Senate and House are in the top 1% -- those making more than $560,000 a year. And we wonder why they can't get anything done for the rest of us? Why would they? when their real interests are padding their portfolios and getting reelected.
Until we take the money out of politics (the disastrous Citizens United v. FEC ruling only makes matters far worse), we will not see any effective governance for the citizens of this country.

... are impressive for several reasons.
(1) Lack of focus. Pick 5 protestors and ask each one what is the purpose of the protest - you'll get 5 completely different answers. The most common theme is hatred of capitalism, although what to replace it with remains unspecified.
(2) Choreography. Far from a spontaneous "grassroots" movement, the protests are planned ahead and coordinated, using technology produced by capitalism.
(3) Violence and racism - especially that old favorite, antisemitism. Compared to these "protests", Tea Party rallies are Sunday afternoon picnics.
The OWS people are being manipulated by individuals and groups who believe it's in their best interests to have our country "fundamentally transformed". That Mr. Obama seems to embrace the movement, while overlooking its obvious faults, is all the more reason to make him a one-term president. That some perceive the movement as simple patriotic dissent makes "change" in 2012 all the more imperative.

"Tea Party rallies are Sunday afternoon picnics." I agree! Throw in plenty of Medicare scooters, assault weapons, a token minority here and there, plenty of Hitler references, maybe a few tribal chief images, Americans for Prosperity, the Koch brothers, and misspelled words from a dictionary only a true Teahadist could understand, and they're almost alike! USA! USA! USA!

there are more minorities at any tea party than there are in the US Senate. There are more anti-semitic videos made from the average occupy protest than at all the tea party meetings. We haven't heard about body lice, fleas, rapes, assaults, drug dealing, public defecation or urination, or rambling incoherant rants at any tea party protests. and lets see you prove some Hitler references associated with tea party protests.

Let me guess, Kathleen Parker is not right-wing enough because she's employed by the Post (as is Charles Krauthammer, George Will, Jennifer Rubin, and Marc Theissen.)
