D. Marquis: Relentless hunt for demons

Not enough praise is being given to Secretary of State Charlie Summers and Republican GOP Chairman Charlie Webster in their quest to protect the citizens of Maine.

Like a “Dynamic Duo,” the two Charlies are relentless in their hunt for witches, demons and hobgoblins in Maine’s election system.

Summers has determined who is responsible for helping noncitizens gain access to the Maine election process. While he concedes that more than two-thirds of the 150 were due to human error, I have to commend him on his zeal to find witches where, seemingly, none exist.

In a review of Maine’s election system (with the guidance of the two Charlies), the Legislature surely is going to find mountains hidden among the mole hills. Surely, the November 2011 vote by Maine citizens overturning the voter registration act confirmed the public has little faith in the election system in its present form.

With the help of the Legislature, the two Charlies will continue championing the public by making sure only voters deemed worthy will have access to the election process.

Why let all Maine citizens enjoy free access, as it is now? The witches might be hiding in huge numbers, despite what Summers admits is a human-error problem. After all, we all know there is an armada hiding on the dark side of the moon waiting for November 2012 elections to begin.

priorities

It's a matter of priorities. The Chucks think it's more important to disenfranchise hundreds, or perhaps thousands of legal Maine voters because there may have been a questionable vote out of the millions cast over the past twenty years or so.
