R. Caron: Republican foolishness

It is amazing to listen to the Republican candidates running to become the next president. I swear, they are working hard enough to become the next pope.

There is family values, with Newt Gringrich preaching about the sanctity of marriage. Mitt Romney, like the Vatican, has millions yet is unable to relate to the lower class (except to fire them). Rick Santorum, a devout Catholic, preaches about abortion and gay marriage.

It never fails, abortion and gay marriage are always spoken of in the same sentence.

Those men are against abortion, yet they practice a form of abortion every time they speak — aborting the rights of gays and lesbians on a daily basis.

Many say being gay is a choice. I can speak only of my own family, being the oldest of seven, with 13 offspring, five of whom are openly gay. Yes, I have a choice: to be open or to lock myself in a very unhealthy closet.

It is time to separate government and religious issues. This nation needs a president who is willing to help and respect all Americans.

Those who want to restore family values by daily quoting Scripture should look into becoming preachers, not elected government officials.

President Barack Obama was given a major task, left behind by Republican George W. Bush. It was a mess that accumulated during Bush's eight years in office. Obama should get another four years to fix the chaos left behind by the Bush administration.

QUOTE: "Obama was given a major task, left behind by Republican George W. Bush. It was a mess that accumulated during Bush's eight years in office. Obama should get another four years to fix the chaos left behind by the Bush administration."

Perhaps the most shallow statement around. This opinion fails to acknowledge that the GWB admin and GOP lost control of Congress (completely, 100%, in-totality) in 2006. Three (3) years of DEM control coincided with three (3) years of economic collapse in the US. Furthermore, on now less than seventeen (17) occaisions GWBush warned publicly of the dangers Fannie-Mae and Freddy-Mac were facing without immediate reform. Moreover, RINO-extraordinaire (but nonetheless Republican) also warned congress publicly on-the-record of the same dangers. The DEMOCRATIC controlled congress ignored these warnings over and over, indeed DEMOCRAT Barney Frank defended the policies that were in danger and lauded them as solid, sound and solvent.

From 2006 to 2009 The Dems ruled the roost. GWB's biggest mistake was "going along to get along" with the Dems, and McCain followed suit. The Dems are and were responsinble for the housing crisis and the economic collase of this nation. It is now 2012. The Dems had complete control of BOTH houses for four (4) years... 2006-2010 and have had complete control of the Senate for EIGHT (8) YEARS... (2006-2012.

Blaming the problems on BUSH is naive at best and willfully dishonest.

This economy belongs to the DEMs and OBAMA.

Republican Presidential hopefuls...

...that put themselves out there as paragons of virtue are nothing but thugs on the take. They live high on the hog while much of our nation festers in joblessness, misery and poverty. None of them have a plan, with the exception of Ron Paul, to bring back American manufacturing and shore up the middle class.

They speak the language of division, sneering at the least fortunate amongst us. They work the audience up into a frenzy, hitting the "hot buttons" like gay marriage, abortion or welfare and laugh at the poor fools who actually believe their lies.

They act like christian jihadists and tell us we are all going to hell in a handbasket if we do not endorse their beliefs. Yet all the while live the life of luxury and ease whilst so many good Americans see their dreams shattered because of the greed of a few.

Heck. I guess you could say the same about any politician. Most of them are millionaires, after all. And most of them could give a rat's arse about we the people.

There's plenty of foolishness to go around.

It's foolish to compare some positions on religion, abortion and gay marriage to the absolute carnage created by BHO. Sure he inherited problems - the only president who didn't was George Washington. But he has spent three years making everything much, much worse. If he gets another term, you and everyone else will have a brand new definition of chaos.

jalbrecht's picture

Name one

The economy turned around within 3 months of his taking office. He has been one of the most effective Presidents in foreign policy in the last 50 years. He hasn't fixed foreclosures (and there is little any president can do to fix them without closing the banks). He's fixed much of the health care problem in the country (if not health care than uninsured consumers). So wheree is this everything that is so much worse.

Frostproof's picture
verified

Yup, things are great!

The economy is wonderful - unless you like to eat, have to commute, are trying to keep warm, and would like to plan for the future farther out than two weeks.

Foreign policy is wonderful - if you like the spectacle of POTUS bowing and scraping, when he's not insulting allies.

Health care is just so affordable now - unless you get sick or hurt. But take heart - very soon you'll think of this time as the good old days.

The foreclosure problem is, I have to admit, getting better with the late and unlamented departure of the vaudeville team of Frank & Dodd, the prancing fools.

Yup, what could anyone possibly complain about?

jalbrecht's picture

I realize Republicans must say the sky is falling

Economy - compared to economic collapse, ever increasing unemployment, frozen credit, non-existent profits, reduced wages, and inflation; I'd say it is wonderful. Not great like under Clinton but then he had only to deal with a mild Republican housing bubble and no financial collapse.
Foreign policy - ridiculous comment hasving no merit.
Health Care - again no comment of merit. Doesn't even fully kick in until 2014
Foreclosure - again nothing worth commenting on.

Frostproof's picture

In 1933 most Germans ...

... had similar opinions about their economy. If you close your mind and your senses, anything appears rosy - as did Clinton's policies until the bubble burst, and I'm not talking about Monica.

Mike...

Jon's and many other's premise is based upon a notion that we can incure debt indefinitely without any serious ramifications. We have yet to see the full effects of our reckless spending, Quanatative easings and dollar manipulations yet because it seems stable in comparison to the Euro. How about India buying oil from Iran in Ruplee's. The common denominator in world trade for decades has been the dollar standard. As we slowly see countries phase that out, so will they phase out our ability to manipulate our currency and printing presses. That will induce hyper-inflation. Wheel barrel of dollars for a loaf. Heard that before???

tron's picture

Remember, the last time the

Remember, the last time the budget was balanced was during the Clinton administration, if you don't believe me just ask newt who gladly takes credit for 'three years of balanced budgets.' So this runaway train is squarely on the backs of republicans, who took a balanced budget and proceeded to bankrupt this country, all the while blaming Democrats. Nice try, but it won't work.

jalbrecht's picture

Sorry you are wrong

"Jon's and many other's premise is based upon a notion that we can incure debt indefinitely...." I don't believe any such thing. In fact, I think the current ntional deficit is currently the most significant threat to America's role in the world and to each of our's standard of living.
1. But I identify the real causes of our debt - the Republican plan (Grover Norquist's plan) to bankrupt America.
2. I recognize the solution is to oppose that plan and all its implications.
3. Foreign trade dropping the US dollar as the media of exchange will not bring about hyper-inflation by itself.
4. We have time to correct the problem. Defeat any and all Republicans (can't solve the problem with the cause controlling the government). Slowly as the economy will allow eliminate the current structural deficit by reducing spending, increasing the marginal Federal Income Tax rate (not the tax rate) on incomes above $1,000,000 to about 50% (as they were under President Eisenhower), reverse all tax and other policies that encourage the export of American jobs, provide incentives to manufacturing here, increase educational achievement here, strengthen regulations, and most importantly bring the financial sector under control starting with jailing those responsible for the recent economic collapse.
5. When national debt is reduced to 25% of GDP return to normal economic policies.

jalbrecht's picture
verified

22 million jobs 3.8% economic growth over 8 years

When did the bubble burst?

As long as we keep Republicans out of office approaching totalitarianism is a very long way off. For example, only republicans support the idea that a Governor like in Michigan should have the power to void elections.

You rant so.

jalbrecht's picture

Didn't write that

I wrote "most effective Presidents in foreign policy in the last 50 years". You missed those little words "in foreign policy". I would agree that his Affordable Health Care law was simply a Republican re-hash which was not in the interests of the country as a whole and that it took attention away from economic recovery which was too slow and not focused enough. But that puts him still a head of Ford, Carter, Bush I, and Bush II. And ahead of everyone on foreign policy since Nixon.

Neither side is right all the time; neither side is wrong all the time. But guess what? You can't get either side to even agree to that. Pretty hopeless cause. There is no room for reason since neither side will budge. Meanwhile, America flushes itself down the toilet of economic ruination.

jalbrecht's picture
verified

Can't agree with you more.

I can trace my facts and figures back to a valid, independent, and reliable sources like US Government figures, Almanacs in this case etc. What you don't see on "conservative" comments is their source or if you do its from a purely partisan group (Heritage Foundation, AEI, etc). And you will see a response to real numbers of "OH yea". Not an alternative number. that's why its so difficult to converse with conservatives. They have their personal "facts" which can't be verified any where else. You would think they would accept Government deficit numbers (they don't).
Also they sacrifice the "facts" to their ideology. Republican basic principle is lower taxes are always good. Well when taxes are zero (Paul recently said that this is best), its obviously not good unless you want to do away with all government, our nation, the Constitution, and all of our traditions.
They arrive at this obviously false idea following Austrian Economics. This is an economic theory which has never been implemented, never tried, not accepted by more than a small cult of economists and has as its fundamental basis that its conclusions can never be empirically tested (in their view all economic theories should be derived from mind games not data or analysis).
Why do they do that. Because it theories are the only ones that comport to ultra-individualism and reject all forms of collective, social interactions. And that champion the idea that the winner no matter how he has won is morally, economically, politically, and socially superior to all others. And therefore comports to a society of elites.
