C. Richards: Why all the fuss?

What is all the hoopla about medical polices finally forcing coverage of birth control?

It's a choice, not a mandate. An insurance policy pays for numerous medications and procedures but people don't have to use them unless needed.

Actually, I think it's about time — policies pay for Viagra. It is a good balance because there are all those men with a new lease on life, so why shouldn't their partners be protected if they so choose?

It is still a man's world.

Typically, polices that pay

Typically, polices that pay for Viagra also offer women’s contraception. The policy holder does pay for these medications however.

That being said, if I want a cheaper policy, I can seek out a policy that provides fewer services at corresponding lower cost today. Under the Obamacare mandates, birth control being the first of many mandates to come, I have no freedom of choice anymore. I’ll be compelled to pay the higher premium for services I don’t need nor want.

While you are focusing on the controversy surrounding the birth control issue that is not the crux of the issue; government mandated services is the problem and should be the focus.

because Viagra solves a medical problem, while the contraceptives are usually just choice. That said, insurance companies will pay less if they cover the pill.

Maybe if some old geezer...

like Bob Dole, who did advertisements for Viagra, didn't use it, there would be less need for contraceptives.
And, who's to say that an unplanned pregnancy isn't a medical problem?

not certain, but I'm pretty sure Mr. Dole's wife Elizabeth doesn't need birth control pills.

Dan,

You had better bone up (pun intended) on birth control pills. They can be very useful in controlling hormonal imbalances. And I did not say Dole used Viagra. I said if old geezers like him

IF you had bothered to read

IF you had bothered to read my posts on this subject, YOU would ALREADY know that I understand that there are times that contraceptives are rarely used for purposes OTHER than birth control. I simply use the term 'birth control pills' because I find the other word very difficult to spell. What's your excuse?
