This is in response to the Connie Schultz column printed April 21.
I believe that Hilary Rosen is not that accurate. There is no reason to believe that Mitt Romney is trying to pit women against women. The news stations she mentions wouldn't give accurate reports, anyway.
I was a stay-at-home mom for 44 of the 45 years of my married life. I was proud of my work and — believe me — it was work. Also, I was far from being a millionaire mother.
We were extremely poor for the first several years of our lives. By staying at home and taking care of my family, my husband was able to work, go to school and build a very successful business.
Life wasn't easy for many years and we would have qualified for government help, but we had pride and never took it. My husband would find a way to take care of our needs.
I am very glad I did stay at home and all four of my children turned out to be very self-sufficient and productive, educated members of society.
I am convinced that being a mother is probably the most important job a woman can do, and that this country would probably be a better place if more mothers took care of their children and gave them love and taught them respect and the ability to be responsible adults.

This letter is why Romney is taking a beating on woman’s issues. I’m not saying being a parent isn’t the most important job my wife or I will ever have. But that isn’t possible for many families. With 25% of kids being raised by single parents, staying at home just isn’t possible.
Romney is out of touch. According to the Census, out of the 85 million mothers in the United States, 5 million are “Stay at home moms”. The age of being able to stay home with the kids is over. The age of letting nature take it course and unplanned pregnancies is over. I know with my kids, we had to plan it out to a tee so that it wouldn’t bankrupt us. The reality is that with the little to no help the US government provides, if you don’t plan ahead or make even one mistake, it can ruin you. The Romney’s have never faced that reality, but most Americans do every day.

The issue isn't about the Romneys being in touch with the 'reality', the issue was that Mrs. Romney was attacked by a democrat political hack who stated that she had never worked a day in her life. Everyone understands that the days of the one family income are over for most. That does not lessen the value of the work that a stay at home mom puts in, as in Ann Romney's case, raising 5 boys.
Ann Romney worked hard and, judging from the character of her 5 sons, succeeded. On the other hand, Hilary Rosen is a twit.

Here is my issue with Ann Romney - I don't like her putting herself in the same category as normal stay at home moms. Now, much of this is supposistion, but I guessing she had alot more help than normal stay at home moms do. Nanny, maids, chauffeurs, ect. Nothing wrong with that, if I could afford them, I would have them too. But the more they try and act like non-rich people, the more awkward they look at it.
Now, that said, I agree Rosen is a twit. If you can't stick to the issues and have to be all like "Romney's rich, blah blah blah" then your argument is crap. There is plenty of material from the Primaries to pull out and laminate to Romney.

If you glance at some polls from organizations that aren't smooching the administration's posterior, it's a toss-up which candidate is taking a beating over this issue. The most important women's issue is this: Republicans value women in the home and in the workplace, and want to preserve their right to choose either path or both; Democrats value women as voters only, and want to dictate their choices to them. Women in general are much too smart to accept the Democrat vision and are telling that to any politician willing to listen, which doesn't include many Democrats.
In the above, substitute "blacks" for "women" and the issue remains pretty much the same. The left expects blacks to stay on the Democrat plantation. Again, they're too smart, a fact that is utterly lost on the race industrialists like Jackson, Sharpton, et al.

Hilary Rosen is not accurate at all. Mitt Romney has no interest in pitting women against women. The only reason he became involved in the first place is because Rosen tastelessly attacked his wife. Rosen is a known oBAMa hack and was playing election politics.

I think he said he deferred to his wife on womens' issues. Regardless of Mitt's exact phraseology, Rosen's attack was pre-emptive, unprovoked and behavior consistent with that of people who sense they're going to get their asses handed to them in November, and will stop at nothing to get a shot in.

You don't get to defer when your in office. No, what he is doing is hiding. He knows his opinion is unpopular, and wants to dodge it. So he "defers" to his wife, making her a target.
I don't like it. There are other ways to move the conversation away from women's issues without hiding behind your wife and making her a target.

I'm certainly no fan of Obama, but this is just another ploy to frighten the sheep toward one pen or the other. The talking heads know the average American will never take the time to actually pay attention to the issues, so we end up with this revolving circus on non-issues that will sadly, in the end, decide the most powerful position on earth.

One must wonder about how long the presidency will remain the most powerful position on earth once oBAMa gets done with it. He is the only U.S. president to have ever bowed to an Arab king. He constantly apologizes for or criticizes America's 'misgivings' whenever he is abroad. He has presided over Operation Fast and Furious, the current Secret Service Scandal. He has dilluted the presidency, in my opinion.
You are correct about the average American regarding the issues. The things that matter are American Idol, partying, and who won the Bruins or the Sox game. Beyond that, most of us are clueless.
