A. Prada: Politicians wouldn't allow it

In his letter, Oct. 18, Peter Sawyer suggested taxing political donations. Wish I had thought of that. If we, the people, have to pay gift taxes, why don’t politicians?

Oh. Silly me. Politicians enact those tax laws.

Silly you.

The giver pays a gift tax, not the receiver - and it doesn't kick in until well into seven figures. At the federal level - Maine's MRS hand enters your shirt and squeezes at a somewhat lower threshold.
