R. Cloutier: Macdonald helpful for veterans

This is in reply to a letter from Joseph Nugent (Dec. 1). In it, he criticized Lewiston Mayor Bob Macdonald for not doing enough for veterans. I disagree.

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer of the prostate. Macdonald heard of my situation and remembered that I had served in Vietnam. He called and advised me that I might quality for disability benefits, due to my exposure to Agent Orange. He gave me the names and contact numbers to the VA and DAV in Togus.

Within a few months, I received an approval letter from the VA.

If not for Macdonald's call, I might never have known about benefits available to me.

I know he will continue to help veterans.

Richard Cloutier, Lewiston
