A canoe rests upside down in a series of rapids on the Androscoggin River on Friday afternoon. A man and his son rented a canoe from Lewiston Auburn Canoe and Kayak Rentals in Auburn. As they traveled downstream, the boat overturned on the rapids near the Durham town line, Auburn police Deputy Chief Jason Moen said. The boat got caught on rocks some distance from the river's edge and the two, who were wearing life vests, swam safely to shore. The boat was left in the river to be retrieved by the rental company.
