Police probe thefts at Sears

LEWISTON — Police arrested a Lisbon man at Sears on Wednesday afternoon and said the suspect is believed to have stolen more than a $1,000 worth of items from the East Avenue store over the past few days.

Matthew Pelletier, 23, of 16 Hemlock St., Lisbon, was arrested at the store on charges of theft and violating bail conditions.

Police were called to the store at about 4:30 p.m. by Sears security officials who reported they had video footage of Pelletier committing several thefts over the past few days.

Several officers responded. They found Pelletier inside the store where he was questioned and arrested.

Later Wednesday night, the investigation was continuing. Police are reviewing security footage and other evidence they say could link Pelletier to a series of thefts with a combined value of more than $1,500.

In August, Pelletier was arrested at Hannaford in Auburn, charged with possession of a scheduled drug and unlawful furnishing a scheduled drug. He was free on bail from those charges when he was arrested on Wednesday.
