AUBURN — Police are investigating a two-car crash that occurred on Route 4 near Roy's Hamburger Stand at 3:18 p.m. yesterday, according to Deputy Police Chief Jason Moen.

Rescue personnel assist victims at the scene of a two-car accident on Route 4 in Auburn Monday afternoon.

Lelo Blodgett, 56, of Mexico was stopped in the southbound lane on Route 4, waiting to turn into a driveway, when she was struck from behind by a 2003 Toyota operated by Frank Harris, 16, of Livermore Falls, Moen said.

Blodgett and a passenger, Stacie Sargent, 54, were extricated from Blodgett's 1999 Saturn by Auburn Firefighters. All three involved were transported to Central Maine Medical Center for varying injuries, Moen said.

Preliminary investigation shows that Harris may have been distracted while adjusting his vehicle’s radio prior to the crash. Preliminary investigation has also ruled out cellular phone use as a contributing factor in the crash, Moen said.

Authorities closed Route 4 at about 3:30 p.m. until the two cars could be removed from the roadway, which was reopened about a half-hour later.

The conditions of the crash victims were unknown as of 10 p.m. Monday night.
