The scene of a two-tractor trailer crash Friday night on the Maine Turnpike in Saco. The crash, in the southbound lane, sent both drivers to the hospital. One driver from Jay was still in critical condition Saturday night.
SACO — A Jay man remained in critical condition Saturday after being involved in a Friday night, two tractor-trailer truck collision on the turnpike.
State Trooper Kristopher Kennedy said in a news release that two loaded tractor-trailers collided at 9:30 p.m. in the southbound lane around mile marker 34, injuring both drivers.
Darren Castonguay, 41, of Gray, was transported to Southern Maine Medical Center in stable condition. Benjamin Desjardins, 37, of Jay was taken to Maine Medical Center where he remained in critical condition Saturday night, according to a nursing supervisor.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection responded to a fuel leak in the highway median caused by the crash. Traffic was temporarily reduced to one lane in each direction. Police spent 10 hours at the scene and the accident remains under investigation.
