United Ambulance responds to a stabbing on the third floor of 88 Bartlett St. in Lewiston on Wednesday.
LEWISTON — A man was found stabbed in a Bartlett Street apartment Wednesday afternoon and the search for a suspect continued into the evening.
At about 5:15 p.m. police were sent to 88 Bartlett St. after a man reported coming home to find his roommate bleeding from what appeared to be a stab wound.
The victim, a 41-year-old, was unresponsive when police and rescue crews arrived, officials said. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he was listed in stable but serious condition late Wednesday night.
Police said they are still trying to contact the victim's family and did not release his name.
The scene of the stabbing is a three-story apartment house near the corner of Bartlett and Pine streets. Several people outside said they had no idea what had transpired. One woman who lives nearby said police are no strangers to the apartment building at 88 Bartlett St.
"The police are there all the time," the woman said. "This place has been trouble."
By 10 p.m., no arrests had been made. At least one man was questioned by detectives at the station but police did not say if he was a witness or a potential suspect.
Investigators said they have leads in the case and an arrest is expected. It was not immediately clear whether the man was stabbed inside the apartment or who else was in the home when it happened.
"We're still trying to figure out who was there and who was not," said Lewiston police Lt. Danny Lachance.
