Driver charged with OUI after crashing into utility pole

AUBURN — Police charged Ryan Demers, 31, of Auburn with operating under the influence after crashing his 2004 GMC pickup into a utility pole late Sunday.

The crash happened about 10:45 p.m.

Demers' vehicle left Manley Road and struck a Central Maine Power pole near the intersection with Lufkin Street. Demers was not hurt.

Power customers in the neighborhood reported to the Sun Journal that they lost electricity at the time of the collision, but its effect was limited.

There was no major outage, CMP spokeswoman Gail Rice said.
