WINDSOR — A Livermore Falls woman was seriously injured Friday in a crash on Route 17 that claimed the life of a Coopers Mills woman.
State police said 76-year-old Helen Hinckley of Coopers Mills died after her car crossed the center line and collided with a second vehicle head-on shortly after 2 p.m.
The driver of the second car, 66-year-old Rita Cushman of Livermore Falls was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where she remained Friday night.
Trooper Christopher Rogers said Hinckley might have suffered a medical issue prior to the crash, which took place at the Whitefield-Windsor line. The busy road was closed at the crash site for more than two hours, reopening just after 4 p.m.
Initial reports said four vehicles were involved, but Rogers said only Hinckley’s and Cushman’s cars collided — drivers of the two other vehicles had stopped to help at the crash site.
