Deputy Chief Jason Moen of the Auburn Police Department talks on the phone as police prepare to remove the body of Jeremy Perry, 41, of Lewiston from below the trestle footbridge in Bonney Park on Tuesday morning.

Deputy Chief Jason Moen of the Auburn Police Department said the death was not considered suspicious.

At the scene Tuesday, Moen said it appeared Perry had slipped and fallen while climbing or walking along the rocks and embankment below the bridge in the early-morning hours Tuesday. Perry’s body did not fall into the river, Moen said.

Auburn police will continue to investigate the death.

A representative from the Maine State Medical Examiner’s Office was on the scene before the body was released to a local funereal home.

About half a dozen police officers and several firefighters helped remove the body. Police cordoned off the footbridge, parts of the park and a portion of Auburn’s Riverwalk, a paved footpath nearby.

Auburn police and firefighters were notified of the incident at about 9:03 a.m., according to Moen. Police said a person walking along the Riverwalk saw the body and notified a crew of construction workers at a nearby building project, who called the police.
