Jake Viel drills a hole on Sabattus Pond while ice fishing for northern pike with his brother and friends on Friday. Viel said lousy ice conditions kept his fishing party close to shore where the ice is thicker. Thin ice across the middle of the lake kept him from fishing on his desired spot. Viel, David Gushee and Ian Ryan are 2009 graduates of Gorham High School. Viel's brother Casey Viel fished with the group as well.
