Lewiston redistricting committee meets today at Dingley Building

LEWISTON — The Lewiston School Department's redistricting committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. today at the Dingley Building. The Dingley Building is downtown on Oak Street and houses the administrative offices of the school department.

On the committee's agenda is considering input received during three recent community sessions.

Lewiston school officials are considering redistricting 234 elementary students to different schools this fall, in part because of the city's growing enrollment and a desire to disperse lower-income English-learning students throughout city schools. The redistricting plan has proved controversial among some parents.

More community sessions will be held, and the topic will be aired at Lewiston School Committee meetings and in front of the Lewiston City Council. The School Committee is scheduled to vote on the plan Feb. 25.
