LEWISTON – A city public works crew has responded to a water main break on Montello Street.

City officials were still assessing the problem which is located on a section of Montello Street between Buttonwood Lane and Main streets.

Water was turned off in that area and that section of Montello Street was closed to traffic. Officials at the city said the break was to a 6-inch main and that repair materials were in route. The work would take several hours to complete.

Just now returned from the site. Water service has been restored (was only turned off ~45 minutes). The crew will be backfilling the excavation and we hope to get it prepped and paved soon.
