LEWISTON — An accident at Chestnut and Canal streets sent three people to the hospital shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Lewiston police Sgt. Dan Lachance said a 2001 Ford Expedition driven by Donna Auger, 65, of Lisbon was southbound on Canal Street when it collided with a silver 2003 Chrysler minivan westbound on Chestnut Street. The minivan was driven by Abdi Aden Yakub, 44.
Air bags deployed in both vehicles. Both were towed due to disabling damage.
Yakub and his passenger were both strapped to backboards and wheeled to ambulances.
Auger and Yakub complained of chest pain.

Driving in downtown Lewiston is riskier than a drive up Route 4 from Auburn to Livermore. I can only wonder why that is.

I have driven in downtown Lewiston god knows how many times and never been in an accident. You must not only be aware of what you are doing, but of the vehicles around you as well.
