Body recovered under Topsham bridge

TOPSHAM — A body has been recovered from beneath the Frank J. Wood bridge that spans the Androscoggin River between Brunswick and Topsham.

According to the Times Record, Topsham fire and police departments were called around 3 p.m. Sunday after someone saw the body and called 911.

The Times Record story reports that Sgt. Robert Ramsay of the Topsham Police Department said, "The body of an adult male was located under the Green Bridge on the Topsham side, on the rocks."

He went on to say that the man was in his 50s and although they believe they know his identity, they are awaiting a report from the state medical examiner.

Ramsay said that they do not consider the death suspicious and that it appears he jumped.
