TOWNSHIP 3 ND — Troy Crawford, the 41-year-old Old Town man who went missing Wednesday, was found dead by members of the Maine Warden Service about 300 yards from his abandoned vehicle near Nicatous Lake on Friday afternoon.
Crawford’s body was found by a game warden K9 team at 3:30 p.m. near an area where clothing had been left behind by the Old Town man, according to Cpl. John MacDonald, spokesman for the warden service and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Crawford’s black Toyota pickup truck was found by Down East Emergency Medical Institute members — using a ground search team of a dozen people and two Humvees, as well as an airplane with a two-man crew — near the lake. Crawford’s body reportedly was found about 60 yards off a road known locally as Oxbow Road, but shown on topographic maps as “The Horseback” in Hancock County.
“The Crawford family called us in yesterday [Thursday] to help and we’ve been searching from Thursday afternoon until we found the truck today around noon,” said Richard Bowie, DEEMI’s director. “The pickup was stuck on a tree stump. The driver had apparently tried to turn it around and got stuck on it.”
Five game wardens and a warden service aircraft also participated in the search.
