PORTLAND — The White House has canceled a trip President Obama had planned to take to Portland, Maine, because of the school shooting in Connecticut.
Obama had planned to visit the city on Wednesday to talk about his approach to avoiding the so-called "fiscal cliff."
He was expected to speak at the University of Southern Maine.
Twenty-seven people, including 20 children, were killed on Friday when a gunman opened fire inside an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.
