Tear gas aids police in ending early-morning standoff in Standish

STANDISH (AP) — Police say they used tear gas to force a domestic violence suspect from a home in Standish and arrest him.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department says 44-year-old Ralph Gaddy Jr. of the Buxton area is charged with domestic violence assault, terrorizing and causing a police standoff. He's being jailed until he can appear before a judge.

Authorities were called early Monday by a 36-year-old woman who said her boyfriend had assaulted her. The victim was able to get out of the house. Police were told Gaddy had been drinking and there were several firearms in the residence.

After several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with Gaddy, search and arrest warrants were issued. Tear gas was fired into the home and Gaddy came outside and was arrested without incident.
