SOMERVILLE — The State Medical Examiner's Office on Friday will examine a body recovered from a burned out farmhouse on Crummett Mountain Road, Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland said.
Investigators believe the body is that of the homeowner, Cecil Brann, 92, who lived alone, he said.
The fire was reported at 3:30 pm by a neighbor who saw smoke and drove to the farm house and found it ablaze, McCausland said in a press release.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said a body was recovered Thursday night from the rubble of the burned out house and barn in this Lincoln County town. It was found in the kitchen at about 9 p.m., he said.
Firefighters were hampered by freezing temperatures, and several of the firetrucks had frozen water and hoses.
It is the state’s first fire death of the year, McCausland said.
