ROCKLAND — A 28-year-old Hope man was released on bail Wednesday morning after he was charged with assaulting two youths.
Pomphile Fontaine was arrested Tuesday evening and charged with two counts of domestic violence assault and one count of domestic violence terrorizing. He was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland and then released before his initial bail hearing was to be held Wednesday afternoon in Rockland District Court.
An affidavit filed in court Wednesday by Knox County Sheriff’s Office Detective Dwight Burtis to obtain an arrest warrant stated that Fontaine acknowledged to the investigator that he went overboard in disciplining his girlfriend’s two sons.
Burtis said in the affidavit it was apparent that Fontaine had trouble controlling his emotions and anger.
One child told the officer that Fontaine had thrown him into a room against a door and then grabbed him by the neck and called him a sissy. The argument reportedly occurred after the youth had failed to do the dishes. Bruises were found on the youth’s right forearm and a red mark on his throat, according to the affidavit.
The other boy said Fontaine had made him stand in a corner and that the man slammed his head against the wall, according to the affidavit.
The children’s father obtained a protection from abuse order on behalf of the children and was awarded temporary custody, according to the affidavit.
