KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan — Kathleen Kienitz and her husband, Jonathan Harris of Auburn, announce the marriage of their son, Peter Maxwell Kienitz Westcott, to Kathleen Yuchuan Tai, the daughter of Donglin Tai and Meizhen Li of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
On Dec. 29, 2012, in Kaohsiung, traditional Taiwanese ceremonies were held at the bride’s family home at which the couple received the bride’s parents’ blessing (the giving away of the bride), followed by a tea ceremony at the home/hotel room of the bridegroom’s parents (the acceptance of the bride into the bridegroom’s family).
The elaborate wedding banquet of 12 courses was held at Hwa-yong Hotel. The bridegroom’s brother, James Kienitz Wilkins and sister, Sophie Harris, both played roles in the ceremonies.
A smaller Christian ceremony was celebrated exactly one year earlier in Maine and officiated by Pastor Marion Marks at Grace Lutheran Church in Auburn.
The bride holds a degree in teaching English as a second language from National Taiwan Normal University.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry and is in the fourth year of a doctorate program in the pharmacogenomics department at University of California at San Francisco.
The couple resides in San Francisco. They enjoyed honeymoons touring the Grand Canyon and Taiwan.
